Seven BIG EAST field hockey student-athletes earned Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-America honors following the conclusion of the 2009 season. Syracuse led conference teams with three honorees while Connecticut boasted a BIG EAST-best two First Team members. Providence and Louisville each had one student-athlete recognized.

Connecticut senior forward Loren Sherer was named Mideast Region Player of the Year by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association following a record-breaking season. Along with Sherer, 17 other BIG EAST field hockey student-athletes earned 2009 Kookaburra/NFHCA Division I All-Region honors, including 11 receiving first team recognition.

The eighth-ranked Syracuse University field hockey team had its season come to an end this afternoon in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at Class of '52 Stadium on the campus of Princeton University. The fourth-ranked Princeton Tigers outscored Syracuse 5-0 in the second half to defeat Syracuse 7-3 and to advance to the Final Four. The Orange finishes 2009 with an 18-4 record, while the Tigers improved to 16-2.

The University of Connecticut field hockey team tied its highest ranking of the season as they earned the No. 5 spot in the final installment of the Kookaburra/NFHCA Division I Field Hockey Coaches Poll.
