The BIG EAST Conference has named Louisville running back Brock Bolen, Pittsburgh defensive end Joe Clermond and Louisville kicker Art Carmody the recipients of the conferences weekly football honors.
Bolen was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week after he sparked the Cardinals’ comeback from an 18-point deficit against Rutgers by scoring two second-half touchdowns, including a two-yard run to tie the game in the fourth quarter, in the Cardinals’ 41-38 win. He had 13 carries for 117 yards, averaging nine yards per carry, and had one reception for eight yards.
Clermond was chosen as BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week. He had eight tackles, a sack, 1.5 tackles for loss and a forced fumble to help Pittsburgh hold No. 2/1 West Virginia to just 183 yards of offense in a 13-9 win in the 100th Backyard Brawl. The win was Pitt’s first against a No. 1-ranked team in school history. The Mountaineers had entered the game averaging 474.8 yards and 41.6 points per game.
Carmody was named BIG EAST Special Teams Player of the Week after he scored 11 points, making field goals of 41 and 33 yards and going 5-for-5 on PATs in Louisville’s 41-38 win against Rutgers. He kicked the game-winning field goal with 20 seconds left in the fourth quarter and set the NCAA career record for points by a kicker (433).
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Bilal Powell, RB, Louisville — Totaled 269 all-purpose yards in Louisville’s 41-38 come-from-behind win against Rutgers. Rushed for 91 yards and a key fourth-quarter touchdown and had seven kickoff returns for 178 yards.
LeSean McCoy, RB, Pittsburgh — Rushed for 148 yards on 38 carries in Pittsburgh’s 13-9 win at No. 2/1 West Virginia. Had 11 carries for 56 yards in the third quarter, helping Pitt hold possession for 12 minutes, 46 seconds.
Kenny Britt, WR, Rutgers — Caught 12 passes for 173 yards, and surpassed the 1,000-yard mark for the season (1,107) in a 41-38 loss at Louisville.
Ray Rice, RB, Rutgers — Rushed for 120 yards and three first-half touchdowns in a 41-38 loss at Louisville. The Doak Walker Award finalist matched his 2006 total with 20 rushing touchdowns and is poised to become the first player in BIG EAST history to win back-to-back conference rushing titles.
Marc Magro, LB, West Virginia — Finished with a game-high 17 tackles to lead a defense that held Pittsburgh to 225 total yards and 3.2 yards per play in a 13-9 loss to the Panthers.
