The BIG EAST Conference has named West Virginia junior forward Joe Alexander and Pittsburgh freshman center DeJuan Blair the winners of its weekly men's basketball honors.
Alexander was chosen as BIG EAST Player of the Week after he posted a game-high 20 points, while shooting 9-for-11 from the floor, in an 86-62 over UMBC, the Mountaineers’ only game of the week. Alexander also grabbed eight rebounds and blocked three shots. He leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 16.2 and 7.1 averages, respectively.
Blair was tabbed as BIG EAST Rookie of the Week. In an 85-68 victory over Oklahoma State, Blair posted game highs of 20 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks. He connected on eight of his 10 shots from the floor. The win over the Cowboys was Pitt’s only contest of the week. For the season, Blair is averaging 11.8 points and 9.1 rebounds.
BIG EAST Honor Roll
Austin Freeman, Georgetown, G, Fr. Scored 21 points in 21 minutes in a 110-51 win over Radford. He shot 7-for-9 from the floor and 5-for-5 from the foul line.
Levance Fields, Pittsburgh, F, Jr. Posted 17 points and six assists in an 85-68 win over Oklahoma State. He was 7-for-10 from the floor.
Corey Chandler, Rutgers, G, Fr. Had 23 points and eight rebounds in a loss to North Carolina. Averaged 19.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week.
Donte’ Greene, Syracuse, F, Fr. Had 25 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals in a 125-75 victory over East Tennessee State.
Corey Fisher, Villanova, G, Fr. Registered 18 points and three assists in a 103-75 victory over Hartford. He was 7-for-12 from the floor.
