PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The USA Softball Women’s National team took home its third World Cup title with a 3-1 win over Australia at the ASA Hall of Fame Complex in Oklahoma City, Okla. on Monday night. The BIG EAST Conference was well represented at the KFC World Cup of Softball presented by Six Flags, as USF head coach Ken Erikson served as an assistant coach and DePaul’s assistant coach Cat Osterman helped anchor the pitching staff.

Osterman entered the championship game in relief in the bottom of the sixth inning with runners on first and second base with USA up, 3-1. The Houston, Texas native was unfazed however, recording three strikeouts and allowing zero hits in the final one and 2/3 innings to record her second save of the tournament.

Australia (3-3) earned the silver medal, while Canada (4-2) took the bronze. The US National team won all of its six games, three of which can in run-rule, shutout fashion. USA finished its gold medal run with 51 runs scored while holding opponents to just four runs throughout the tournament.
