PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The BIG EAST Conference has named Notre Dame junior Kyle McAlarney and Rutgers freshman Mike Coburn the winners of the conference's weekly men's basketball honors for the week-ending Jan. 27.
McAlarney was chosen as BIG EAST Player of the Week after he poured in a game-high 30 points in Notre Dame’s 90-80 victory at No. 18/18 Villanova in the Irish’s only game of the week. McAlarney shot 10-of-15 from the floor, including 5-of-8 from 3-point range. He also dished five assists. For the season, McAlarney is averaging 18.2 points per game in league play. In six BIG EAST games, he already has scored 30 or more points twice.
Coburn was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week after averaged 20.0 points and 4.0 assists in a 2-0 week for the Scarlet Knights, who knocked off nationally ranked teams in back-to-back games for only the second time in program history. He had 17 points in the 77-64 win at No. 13/17 Pittsburgh and added a career-high 23 in an 80-68 decision against No. 18/18 Villanova.

Averaged 13.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks in a 2-0 week. Had 12 points and 10 rebounds in win at West Virginia.

Scored 25 points with 10 rebounds in the win at Villanova for his ninth double-double of the season.
Anthony Mason, Jr., St. John’s, F, Jr.
Averaged 29.0 points and 7.0 rebounds in two games. Shot 66.7 percent from 3-point range (10-of-15) and 57.9 percent from the field (22-of-38).
Brian Laing, Seton Hall, F, Jr.
Averaged 22.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week. Led all scorers and rebounders with 23 points and eight boards against Cincinnati. Played all 40 minutes of both games.
