PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Syracuse sophomore center Kayla Alexander earned honors as the BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Marquette freshman Katherine Plouffe was selected as the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the first time this season. Alexander earns recognition as the BIG EAST Player of the Week for the second time this year, after earning the award on Dec. 6.
Alexander averaged 21.3 ppg, 11.0 rpg and 4.0 bpg in a 3-0 week for the Orange. She shot 64.3 percent from the field for the week. Against Saint Francis (Pa.), she had 20 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks, shooting 75 percent. Against Bryant, she led all scorers with 23 points, adding eight rebounds and four blocks, shooting 82 percent. Alexander logged her fourth-consecutive 20-point game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, recording 21 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks. She has tallied three double-doubles in the last four games and currently leads SU in points (16.1), blocks, (3.6), field goal percentage (.603) and rebounds (8.6).
Plouffe averaged 13.0 ppg in a 2-0 week for Marquette, helping the Golden Eagles win the Sun and Fun Classic, its first regular-season tournament championship since 2006. She scored a team-high 14 points and had seven rebounds in MU’s win at FIU on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor. She followed that performance with 12 points and six rebounds against Louisiana Tech, connecting on 5-of-8 and adding a career-best three assists in the title game.

Had 13 points and six rebounds in the win at Houston and tied her season high of 28 points in the Hoyas’ win against Clemson, adding four assists.
Monique Reid, Louisville, Jr., F (Louisville, Ky.)
Scored 20 points in the Cardinals’ 92-67 win against UT-Martin on Dec. 28, adding seven rebounds, two assists and a steal. She shot 9-of-15 from the field for her 24th straight double-figure effort and 19th career 20-point game.
Devereaux Peters, Notre Dame, Sr., F (Chicago, Ill.)
Nearly averaged a double-double with 12.3 ppg and 9.7 rpg last week, along with 2.7 spg and a .581 field goal percentage. Named the State Farm Holiday Hoops Classic MVP and recorded two double-doubles in a 3-0 week.
Da’Shena Stevens, St. John’s, Jr., F (Stamford, Conn.)
Averaged 17.5 ppg and 6.5 rpg for St. John’s last week. Led the Red Storm in a win against Liberty with 20 points on 62-percent shooting. Scored 15 points and added seven rebounds against Maryland and was named to the Terrapin Classic All-Tournament Team.
Lindsay Kimmel, Villanova, Jr., F (Binghamton, N.Y.)
Shot 43 percent from the field and connected on five 3-pointers as she averaged 16.0 ppg and 4.0 rpg, to go along with seven assists, two blocks and a steal en route to being named to the Fordham Holiday Classic All-Tournament Team.
