Three BIG EAST Men’s Soccer Stars Named To The Hermann Trophy Watch List
KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Three BIG EAST men’s soccer stars have been named to the Hermann Trophy Watch List for the Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Trophy. USF senior goalkeeper Jeff Attinella, Louisville junior forward Colin Rolfe and West Virginia junior defender Raymon Gaddis headline the 39-player list.
All three league players were named Preseason All-BIG EAST selections earlier this week.
In addition, Attinella was named the BIG EAST Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year, while Rolfe was named the BIG EAST Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. Rolfe was the sole unanimous All-BIG EAST Preseason selection among the 11-person squad.
Last year, Attinella earned a 14-4-3 record while recording seven shutouts and letting up only 18 goals in 1,964 minutes of play. Attinella, who was a critical piece of the puzzle for the Bulls, posted a 0.83 goals against average and a .849 save percentage.
Rolfe led the team in scoring last season with 22 points, scoring 10 goals and dishing out two assists. He also scored four game-winning goals for the Cardinals. He was named a first team All- BIG EAST selection and a first team NSCAA All-American. Rolfe was also named a Hermann Trophy Semifinalist.
Gaddis has played in 35 career games, starting 34 and has been an anchor of the nationally-ranked Mountaineer defense his previous two seasons. Gaddis was also a first-team selection on the NSCAA all-Northeast Region squad in 2009.
Considered soccer’s version of the Heisman Trophy, recipients of MAC’s Hermann Trophy are selected by Division I head coaches who are current members of the NSCAA. A list of 15 semifinalists will be selected by a committee in late November, with three finalists announced in early December. The winner will be presented with the trophy on Jan. 7 at the Missouri Athletic Club, located in downtown St. Louis.
