Summer vacation is over in the BIG EAST Conference as the 2010-11 athletics season gets underway Friday. Twelve women’s soccer games dot the Friday schedule to kick off a busy weekend on the pitch.
The schedule is highlighted by a matchup of top-25 teams as No. 24 West Virginia hosts No. 13 Penn State at 7 p.m. at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown, W.Va.
Villanova is the first team in action as the Wildcats make the short road trip to Temple for a 5 p.m. Eastern start. Fourth-ranked Notre Dame, which advanced to the NCAA College Cup last season, hosts Minnesota at 5:30 p.m., while St. John’s faces Michigan State at 5:30 on the campus of Texas A&M.
No. 18 Rutgers takes on unranked Stony Brook at 7 p.m. at Yurcak Field in a game that will be televised locally in New Jersey on Verizon FiOS.
Other 7 p.m. games have Cincinnati hosting Morehead State, Louisville entertaining Eastern Kentucky, and Syracuse visiting William & Mary.
USF hosts North Florida at 7:30 p.m., DePaul visits Iowa for an 8 p.m. start, while Marquette hosts Idaho State at 8:30 to round out the Friday schedule.
The other four BIG EAST women’s soccer teams also get started this weekend. Georgetown visits American Saturday in the only game of the day. Seton Hall starts Sunday with a trip to Fordham, while Providence heads to Sacred Heart and Connecticut hosts Siena in Sunday-afternoon games.
