Notre Dame Wins 7th Straight BIG EAST Rowing Title

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Notre Dame Fighting Irish made it seven in a row on Lake Quinsigamond, winning five of six races to take home the 2010 BIG EAST Rowing Championship. ND, which totaled 121 points, capped its impressive day with a six second win in the grand final of the varsity eight event. Georgetown came as the runner-up, tallying 93 points.

The Fighting Irish were victorious in all but the very first race of the late morning, the novice four which was won by Villanova in 8:41.882. Notre Dame placed second in the event with a time of 8:51.112. The Irish went on to take each of the next five races: the second varsity four, the novice eight, the varsity four, the second varsity eight and the varsity eight. All of the ND wins were by four seconds or more.

Georgetown took hold of a second-place finish with three silver medal finishes and a bronze medal performance. Syracuse (84 points) edged out Louisville by four points for a third place overall.
