OVIDENCE, R.I. - Georgetown redshirt freshman Mark Dennin takes home BIG EAST Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors after winning his first collegiate race. Cincinnati senior Jocelyn McCauley was tabbed as the women's Athlete of the Week after her victory at the Queen City Invitational.
Not only did Dennin win his debut, he broke a course record at the JMU Open Invitational on Sept. 12. Dennin finished the 7,900 meter race in 24:16.80, 26.80 seconds faster than the top mark. The old record was held by current teammate, senior Levi Miller, who was an All-American last year. Dennin's banner day helped the Hoyas finished second overall. No. 9 ranked Georgetown will next compete at the George Mason Invitational on Oct. 3 in Fairfax, Va.
McCauley, a transfer from Brigham Young, competed in her first race for Cincinnati and led a group that finished 1-2-3. The senior beat out 105 runners and completed the 5k race in 18:20 on Sept. 12. McCauley crossed the finish line 18 seconds before any other racer. The Bearcats tied for first overall with Xavier as both squads totaled 48 points. Cincinnati's next race is at the Iona College Meet of Champions on Sept. 19 in New York, N.Y.
