The BIG EAST Conference has named Rutgers quarterback Chas Dodd, Scarlet Knight kicker San San Te and Syracuse strong safety Max Suter the winners of the conference's weekly football honors for the week-ending Oct. 9.
Dodd, who was chosen as BIG EAST Player of the Week, made his first career start in Rutgers’ BIG EAST opener against Connecticut and led Rutgers to a 27-24, come-from-behind win against the Huskies. He threw for 322 yards – the most by a BIG EAST player this season – and completed 18 of 29 passes with two touchdowns. Dodd engineered two scoring drives in the final four minutes to bring the Scarlet Knights back from a 24-17 fourth-quarter deficit.
Suter, named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, was the catalyst of a Syracuse defense that limited USF to 219 yards of offense and had two interceptions and four sacks in the Orange’s 13-9 win in Tampa. Suter had a game-high eight tackles, including three tackles for loss, a sack and a forced fumble to help Syracuse to its first 4-1 start since 1999.
Te, the BIG EAST Special Teams Player of the Week, scored nine points and kicked two field goals, including a 34-yard attempt with 13 seconds left to cap Rutgers’ 27-24, come-from-behind win against Connecticut in the Scarlet Knights’ BIG EAST opener.
