The BIG EAST women’s soccer championship kicks off today with first-round action featuring two games. The American Division No. 4 seed Connecticut hosts the National Division No. 5 seed Louisville. UConn leads the all-time series 1-0-1, but has never faced the Cardinals in postseason play. The Cardinals are led by former UConn standout Karen Ferguson-Dayes, who was a three-time All-America selection with the Huskies (’91, ’92, ‘93). Kickoff is at 3 p.m. ET in Storrs, Conn., with the advancing team set to face Notre Dame on Oct. 31.
The other women’s soccer first-round game has National Division No. 4 seed DePaul hosting American Division No. 5 seed Pittsburgh. DePaul is 0-1-0 in BIG EAST Championship play while Pitt is 0-4-0. The advancing team will make its first appearance in the BIG EAST Championship quarterfinals and face Marquette on Oct. 31. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. ET in Chicago, Ill.
There is one men’s soccer game on Thursday as Georgetown hosts Connecticut in a pivotal league match. The Hoyas currently lead the league’s Blue Division with 18 points, while UConn is tied for third with 15 points. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. ET.
