Volleyball enters the tail end of the season with some key matchups this weekend that have BIG EAST Championship implications. Three teams including West Virginia, Pittsburgh and Seton Hall enter the weekend with 4-4 conference records and tied for seventh place. Five matches are set for Friday night, including four with 7 p.m. ET starts. Seton Hall looks to gain an edge in the race for a tournament berth, taking on 5-4 USF in Tampa, Fla. Villanova also looks to make a move on first place, as the Wildcats put their 7-1 record on the line at Louisville. Other matches include Pittsburgh at Syracuse, Rutgers at Georgetown and West Virginia at Marquette.
Saturday features two matches as St. John’s visits Notre Dame for a 10 a.m. start and Connecticut is at DePaul at 3 p.m.
Seven matches are on the slate Sunday, including No. 21 Cincinnati hosting Villanova in a match that could be for first place in the conference. Pittsburgh visits Marquette and West Virginia is at Syracuse in two other key matchups with tournament implications.
The 2010 BIG EAST Cross Country Championships take place this Saturday, with all 16 teams competing at Jamesville Beach Park in Jamesville, N.Y. The women’s race is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. with the men’s following that at 11:15 a.m. Check out the Championship Central

The BIG EAST enters its final weekend of conference play with three teams vying for the final spot in the BIG EAST Championships. No. 4 Connecticut hosts Rutgers Saturday at 1 p.m., while No. 7 Syracuse also hosts Villanova at 1 p.m. Providence travels to Georgetown Saturday for a 1:30 p.m. contest. Syracuse, Louisville and Connecticut have secured spots in the conference tournament, while Rutgers, Villanova and Georgetown battle for the final slot.
In ranked-opponent action this weekend, No. 10 Louisville travels to No. 1 Maryland Saturday for a 1 p.m. game. The BIG EAST Field Hockey Championships are Nov. 6-7 in Storrs, Conn. at the University of Connecticut.
This weekend men's soccer wraps up its regular season, with six games on Saturday and two games on Sunday. On Saturday, West Virginia plays at Providence, with both teams already clinching a berth to the Championship and vying for seeding. Villanova will play at No. 2/4 Louisville, which will look to wrap up the season undefeated. Syracuse plays at Cincinnati and DePaul will play at Rutgers, as the result of those two games will determine the final team in the red division to clinch a berth. USF is at St. John's, which is unbeaten in its last games and Seton Hall will play at Marquette on Saturday night. The final two contest of the regular season are No. 6/6 Connecticut at Pittsburgh and Georgetown at Notre Dame. They Hoyas captured the regular season title in the blue division with a 1-0 shutout over the Huskies on Thursday, capping a nine-game win streak.
