PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Making its first appearance in the title game of the BIG EAST Championship, USF (13-4-3) will square off against West Virginia (15-4-1) on Sunday, Nov. 7 for the league’s automatic berth to the 64-team NCAA Championship. The winner also will earn the inaugural BIG EAST Champions Cup.
Kickoff is set for noon, ET at Yurcak Field on the campus of Rutgers University. The game will be televised live on CBS College Sports as well as many local affiliates via BIG EAST Network. In addition, the game will be streamed live online for free at www.bigeast.tv
As the No. 3 seed out of the American Division, USF is looking for its fourth BIG EAST Championship since joining the league in 2005. The Bulls also won the league’s 2007 women’s tennis title, the 2008 men’s soccer crown and the 2009 men’s tennis title.
As the No. 2 seed out of the American Division, WVU is looking for its second BIG EAST Women’s Soccer Championship. The Mountaineers won the league’s title in 2007 by virtue of penalty kicks. WVU also played in the title game in 2001 and 2002.
SERIES HISTORY – West Virginia leads the all-time series 4-1-1, but the teams have not met in the postseason. Earlier this season, the teams played to a double-overtime scoreless draw on Sept. 26 in Morgantown, W.Va.
