Women's Basketball Season Begins Friday

The 2010-11 women's basketball season begins with 13 teams in action on Friday. There are two televised contests on the slate as Louisville opens its new arena (The YUM! Center) against No. 4/4 Tennessee. The game tips off at 7 p.m., and will be shown nationally on CBS College Sports at 9:30 p.m. The game also will feature a pregame jersey retirement ceremony of former star Angel McCoughtry. A sellout crowd of more than 22,000 is expected on hand.

In addition Rutgers heads to California in a west coast matchup that will be televised on Comcast Sports Net-Bay Area at 10 p.m. ET. The Scarlet Knights are 25-11 all-time in season-openers.

Cincinnati hosts Southwest Baptist, while Pittsburgh welcomes Youngstown State. Both games are set for 11 a.m. No. 14/16 St. John's takes on Marist at 1:30 p.m., in the Commerce Bank/Wildcat Classic in the Little Apple, Manhattan, Kan. No. 12/12 Notre Dame hosts New Hampshire, while Villanova has local rival La Salle. Both of those games begin at 4 p.m.

Later that evening at 5 p.m., USF tips off against Jacksonville at home and Providence travels to St. Joseph's. No. 11/11 West Virginia will host Loyola (Md.) at 7 p.m., in a game streamed online at ESPN3.com. At 7:05 p.m., Seton Hall begins the Anne Donovan era at Florida Gulf Coast.

DePaul host Valparaiso at home in the Preseason NIT at 8 p.m. ET. In addition Syracuse begins the year with a doubleheader following their men's contest. The Orange are scheduled to take on Northeastern at approximately 9:30 p.m.
