2010 BIG EAST Volleyball Championship Semifinals Set for Saturday

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The 2010 BIG EAST Volleyball Championship semifinals are set and the two matches will be played Saturday afternoon at Fitzgerald Field House in Pittsburgh, Pa. The first match is at 1:00 p.m. and will feature No. 1 seed Cincinnati versus No. 5 seed Notre Dame. The second matchup begins at 3:30 p.m. and is between No. 2 seed Louisville and No. 3 seed Marquette.

The No. 1 seed Bearcats defeated No. 8 seed USF in straight sets on Friday. Cincinnati moves into the semifinals for the second-straight season. No. 5 seed Notre Dame knocked-off No. 4 seed Villanova 3-1 in the first quarterfinal match on Friday to advance to the semifinals for the 16^th consecutive year. Cincinnati and Notre Dame faced-off earlier this season in a nationally televised game on ESPNU, with the Bearcats taking a straight-set win from the Irish.

The No. 2 seed Cardinals won a four-set match with No. 7 seed Seton Hall to advance to the BIG EAST Championship semifinals for the sixth-straight season. Louisville matches up with No. 3 seed Marquette, who defeated the host No. 6 seed Pittsburgh 3-0 on Friday to advance to its second BIG EAST Championship semifinal in program history. The Golden Eagles won the regular-season meeting between the two squads in five sets.

The semifinal winners will meet Sunday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. The match will be exclusively broadcast live on ESPNU.
