PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The BIG EAST Conference has named Pittsburgh guard Ashton Gibbs and Cincinnati guard Sean Kilpatrick the winners of the first weekly men's basketball honors of the 2010-11 season.
Gibbs, who was named BIG EAST Player of the Week, has led Pittsburgh to a 5-0 start, which included earning MVP honors at the 2K Sports Classic Benefiting Coaches Vs. Cancer. The Panthers knocked off Maryland 79-70 in the semifinals and No. 22 Texas 68-66 in the championship game in New York. Against Texas, Gibbs had 24 points. For the season, the native of Scotch Plains, N.J., is averaging 19.0 points and 4.0 assists. He is shooting 47.1 percent from 3-point range.
Kilpatrick was chosen as BIG EAST Rookie of the Week. He has helped Cincinnati to a 2-0 start by leading the team in scoring in both contests. He netted 21 points in his first college game, a 69-59 win over Mount St. Mary’s. Kilpatirck, a native of White Plains, N.Y., is averaging 17.0 points for the season. He is shooting 55 percent from the floor and 45.5 percent from 3-point range.

Was named MVP of the Charleston Classic after averaging 15.7 points and 8.0 assists in three Hoya victories, including an 82-67 win over NC State in the championship game.
Ben Hansbrough, Notre Dame, G, Sr.
Averaged 20.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists in a 3-0 start for the Fighting Irish. Has led Notre Dame in scoring in each game.
Marshon Brooks, Providence, F, Sr.
Recorded a double-double in each of the Friars’ first three games this season. He is averaging 19.7 points, 11.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and is shooting 50 percent from the field.
Casey Mitchell, West Virginia, G, Sr.
Has averaged 20.5 ppg in a 3-1 WVU start. He made the All-Tournament Team in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off after scoring 31 points in a 74-71 win over Vanderbilt and 27 points in a 74-70 loss to Minnesota in the title game.
