PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Five BIG EAST Conference women’s basketball teams remained in both the Associated Press and the USA Today/ESPN polls after the second week of play.
Connecticut topped both lists after edging then-No.2/2 Baylor 65-64 Nov. 16 and defeating Georgia Tech 71-51 on the road Nov. 21, stretching the Husky win streak to 81. West Virginia held on to its No. 10/11 ranking in the AP and USA Today/ESPN polls, respectively. The Mountaineers downed Duquesne 69-58 Nov. 17 and Delaware State 66-31 Nov. 19.
Georgetown climbed a spot in both polls to No. 12/12, while Notre Dame fell to No. 18/16. The Hoyas nipped then-No. 21/RV Maryland 53-45 Nov. 16 and beat La Salle 50-46 Nov. 19. The Irish slipped in the rankings after losing to then-No. 15/15 UCLA 86-83 Nov. 18 and to then-No. 9/10 Kentucky 81-76 Nov. 21.
St. John’s rounded out the rankings for the BIG EAST, dropping to No. 22 in the AP Poll and No. 24 in the USA Today/ESPN Poll, despite going 3-0 last week. The Red Storm beat Manhattan 77-51 Nov. 16, Columbia 65-41 Nov. 19 and Arkansas State 60-48 Nov. 22.
DePaul continued to receive votes in both polls, while Louisville collected USA Today/ESPN votes.
