MILWAUKEE - Students opened their hearts and their wallets to help those in need this Thanksgiving holiday. Members of Marquette University's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) raised over $1,000 to donate to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Milwaukee. Catholic Financial Life, formerly Catholic Knights/Catholic Family Life Insurance, provided matching funds. Checks totaling $1,259 were presented to the St. Vincent de Paul Society's Executive Director Lin Fischer at the Al McGuire Center Tuesday afternoon.
"It's an honor to be a student-athlete at Marquette University, but its a privilege to be able to give back to the community through the St. Vincent de Paul Society," said SAAC President and track and field student-athlete Joe Kohut. "It's also an opportunity to say thank you for the generosity in both prayers, well wishes and other contributions."
SAAC is a student-athlete run organization that operates on the behalf of all Marquette student-athletes. Kohut says their goal is to help provide an all-encompassing college experience. Part of that experience is allowing student-athletes to gice back to the very community that supports them.
