PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Georgetown guard Chris Wright was named BIG EAST men’s basketball Player of the Week and DePaul guard Brandon Young was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Wright was named BIG EAST Player of the Week for the first time in his career after averaging 21.0 points, 6.0 assists and 2.5 steals in a 2-0 week in which he shot 52.4 percent from the field and 89.5 percent from the free throw line. He scored 21 points with 10 assists in a 111-102 overtime win against No. 9/8 Missouri, including the tying 3-pointer at the end of regulation. He followed with a 21-point, four-steal effort in a 68-51 win against Utah State, helping the Hoyas remain unbeaten at 8-0.
Young was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week after averaging 24.0 points and shot 69.6 percent from the field (16-of-23) and 100 percent from 3-point range (6-of-6) to help DePaul to a 2-0 week. He scored 17 points — all in the second half — in a 86-84 win against Northern Illinois and had 31 points on 9-of-11 shooting in a 71-62 win against Central Michigan. Young is the first DePaul freshman since Lance Williams in the 1998-99 season to start his career with seven straight games in double figures.

Averaged 16.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week. Had 17 points and 13 rebounds in a 78-58 win against Cornell.
Casey Mitchell, West Virginia, G, Sr.
Averaged 22.5 points and 4.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week. Had 27 points in a 71-50 win against American and 18 points with seven rebounds in a 79-76 loss at Miami (Fla.).
