THE GAME
The New Era Pinstripe Bowl will be played for the first time in 2010 … The game pairs teams from the BIG EAST and Big 12 conferences at Yankee Stadium … The 2010 game will be the first bowl game — and the second college football game — to be played at the new Yankee Stadium … Notre Dame and Army played the first football game at the new facility Nov. 20 … The game is the first bowl game in the Bronx since Dec. 15, 1962, when Nebraska beat Miami (Fla.) 36-34 in the Gotham Bowl at the original Yankee Stadium … Yankee Stadium will host a series of Army games in coming years, including a date against Rutgers in 2011 … Syracuse has played six games at the original Yankee Stadium, including a 3-0 win against Pittsburgh Oct. 20, 1923, in the first college football game at that facility … Syracuse head coach Doug Marrone grew up in the Bronx, and his grandfather, Robert Thompson, worked as an usher at Yankee Stadium for nearly 20 years … Syracuse and Kansas State have met twice previously, with both games taking place in the postseason … Kansas State was a 35-18 winner in the 1997 Fiesta Bowl, while Syracuse took the 2001 Insight.com Bowl 26-3.

Syracuse has earned its first bowl bid since the 2004 season after the Orange went 7-5 overall and 4-3 in the BIG EAST … Syracuse is making its 23rd bowl appearance … The Orange have gone 12-9-1 in bowl games and is 3-2 in the postseason against Big 12 opponents … Syracuse is assured of its first winning season since the 2001 team finished 10-3 … The Orange went 5-1 in road games and was 2-4 at home this season … Syracuse became the first team in BIG EAST history to go unbeaten in road games (4-0) and winless at home (0-3) in conference play … Coach Doug Marrone was named the American Football Coaches Association Region I Coach of the Year and is a semifinalist for the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year honor … LB Doug Hogue was an All-BIG EAST First Team selection after he finished the regular season with 89 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss and three sacks … LB Derrell Smith earned second team honors after finishing with a team-high 103 tackles and three forced fumbles … DE Chandler Jones had four sacks and three forced fumbles to earn All-BIG EAST Second Team honors as well … The offense is paced by RB Delone Carter, who rushed for 1,035 yards and seven touchdowns in the regular season on his way to All-BIG EAST Second Team status … QB Ryan Nassib threw for 2,095 yards and 16 touchdowns against eight interceptions … WR Van Chew is the leading receiver with 611 yards and five touchdowns on 41 receptions … P Rob Long — an All-BIG EAST Second Team pick in 2010 — will miss the Pinstripe Bowl after undergoing brain surgery in December.

Kansas State returns to postseason play for the first time since 2006 after the Wildcats went 7-5 overall and 3-5 in the Big 12 in 2010 … The Wildcats are making their 14th appearance in a bowl game and bring a 6-7 postseason record into this year’s New Era Pinstripe Bowl … Coach Bill Snyder is in the second year of his second tenure on the Wildcat sideline … Snyder coached Kansas State from 1989-2005, winning four Big 12 North titles and the 2003 Big 12 championship before returning to the Wildcats in 2009 … Snyder’s 149 career wins rank 12th among active Bowl Subdivision coaches … RB Daniel Thomas was chosen as an All-Big 12 Second Team selection after he ran for 1,495 yards and 16 touchdowns in the regular season … Thomas ranks second in the Big 12 in rushing at 124.6 yards per game, good for ninth nationally … Thomas enters the postseason after rushing for 269 yards on 36 carries in the regular-season finale at North Texas … Thomas also had a 234-yard day in the season-opening win against UCLA … QB Carson Coffman has thrown for 1,832 yards and 12 touchdowns with seven interceptions … The leading receiver is WR Aubrey Quarles, who has 47 receptions for 685 yards and five touchdowns … RB William Powell is a dangerous return man who was an All-Big 12 First Team selection … Powell leads the nation with an average of 34.6 yards per return … DB David Garrett leads the Wildcats in tackles (86) and tackles for loss (13) … DT Prizell Brown has a team-high five sacks.
