Three Teams Represented in BIG EAST Indoor Track and Field Weekly Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – After a month hiatus, BIG EAST Track and Field weekly honors returned this week with Georgetown, St. John’s and West Virginia each garnering recognition. Georgetown swept the awards on the men’s side, as senior Chris Kinney was named Male Track Athlete of the Week and freshman Eghosa Aghayere was named Male Field Athlete of the Week. On the women’s side, West Virginia senior Chelsea Carrier earned Female Track Athlete of the Week and St. John’s senior Priscilla Frederick was named Female Field Athlete of the Week.

Kinney was named BIG EAST Male Track Athlete of the Week for the second time this season after running a time of 7.86 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles at the Father Diamond Invitational on Jan.8. The time is second only to his own BIG EAST-best time set back on Dec. 4 at the Navy Invitational and stands third on the national list. The senior finished fourth in the event at the meet.

Aghayere garnered BIG EAST Male Field Athlete of the Week after finishing fourth in the triple jump at the Father Diamond Invitational on Jan. 8. The freshman jumped a distance of 14.43 meters, notching the third-best mark in the BIG EAST this season and the top jump of the weekend. The distance also qualified Aghayere for the IC4A meet, while putting him in a three-way tie for the 32nd longest triple jump this season in the NCAA.

Carrier earned BIG EAST Female Track Athlete of the Week after running a BIG EAST season-best time of 8.33 seconds to win the 60-meter hurdles at the Penn State Relays on Jan. 8. The result stands as the second-best time nationally in the event and qualified Carrier for the BIG EAST Championships.

Frederick was named BIG EAST Female Field Athlete of the Week after placing first in the high jump and second in the long jump at the Princeton Quad Meet on Jan. 7. Frederick won the high jump after clearing a height of 1.70 meters, the third-best jump in the conference this season. The senior followed that with a long jump of 5.49 meters to claim second in the event.
