Teleconference Excerpts:
Agnus Berenato, Pittsburgh
“I don’t know that people realize the intensity and how competitive our conference is. And for the rest of the nation, it’s great to watch BIG EAST basketball, but for the coaches it’s just stress, it’s just incredible stress I think. Because you can never look at a game and say, ‘we’re going to get that game.’” She later continued, “it takes extreme preparation and it takes extreme hard work from your team and your team has to be mentally prepared to go to battle every day.”
Kim Barnes Arico, St. John’s
“I think we play in the best league in the country and I think the teams in our league have really shown that night in and night out with what they’ve been able to do against each other, but especially against our nonleague opponents. I think our league is playing the best ever. I think we have 10 to 11 teams that could be NCAA tournament teams. I think that coming down the stretch here is going to be difficult for everyone because everybody’s got a great game every single night and there aren’t any games that you can overlook and say that ‘this is going to be a win’ because on any given night any team in our conference is capable of getting a win. So I think our league is the best.”
