LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Notre Dame swept the first day of diving action, claiming the women’s 3-meter board and the men’s 1-meter board crowns at the BIG EAST Championships at the Ralph R. Wright Natatorium on the University of Louisville campus. The diving portion of the BIG EAST Swimming & Diving Championships, kicked of Feb. 11.
Irish sophomore Jennifer Chiang posted a winning score of 337.40 on the 3-meter board to take the 2011 conference title. She edged Louisville sophomore Hannah Gadd by 2.60 points.
In the men’s 1-meter competition, Notre Dame senior Eric Lex took top honors with a score of 355.70. During the regular season, he posted the best league score in the 1-meter board with 405.15, which he set at ND’s Shamrock Invitational Jan. 28. Pittsburgh senior Collin Forner posted a second-place score at the BIG EAST Championships with 336.15. Louisville senior David Zamkov finished a career-high best of third with a point total of 330.50.
The competitors switch boards Saturday, Feb. 12 with the women moving to the 1-meter and the men to the 3-meter. The diving portion of the BIG EAST Championship wraps up Sunday, Feb. 13 with platform diving.
