PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Seven BIG EAST women’s basketball teams remain ranked in the latest national polls released this week. Connecticut continues to lead the way at No. 2 in both the Associated Press rankings as well as the ESPN/USA Today Top 25 Coaches’ poll. The Huskies (25-1, 12-0 BIG EAST) have won 13 in a row, including an 86-45 victory over then-No. 14/12 Oklahoma last night.
UConn has been gaining ground on No. 1 Baylor and is just 10 points behind in the AP rankings and just six points behind in the Coaches’ Poll. The Huskies take on No. 8/8 Notre Dame on Saturday in the BIG EAST television Game of the Week. The Irish (22-4, 11-1 BIG EAST) have won nine in a row since a three-point loss to the Huskies (79-76) on Jan. 8. It will be the 16th matchup between Top 25 teams during conference play this year. The remainder of the national rankings has No. 10/11 DePaul, No. 18/18 Georgetown, No. 21/20 West Virginia and No. 22/21 Marquette. St. John’s also is receiving votes in the AP rankings and sits at No. 22 in the Coaches’ Poll.
Louisville, Rutgers and Syracuse each received votes in the Coaches’ Poll as well.
