After leading his team to a 2-2 record last week, Georgetown junior outfielder Rand Ravnaas earned the season’s second BIG EAST Player of the Week honor. Ravnaas became the first Hoya since Sean Baumann on March, 30, 2009, to earn the award. Seton Hall senior righthander Joe DiRocco was named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week for the second straight week.
Ravnaas earns his first career Player of the Week honor after batting .500 (9-for-18) in a 2-2 week for the Hoyas. Ravnaas had four RBI while scoring a league-best five runs. He also stole four bases while slugging .889. The junior had three hits in both of the team’s wins, going 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI against both Northwestern and Delaware State.
DiRocco earns his second straight Pitcher of the Week award after picking up the win against No. 24 North Carolina. DiRocco, who has claimed the first two awards of the season, went 6.1 innings, scattering four hits (all singles) while allowing just one run to lead the Pirates to a 3-1 win. The senior also struck out four batters to move to 2-0 on the season.
Rutgers was the lone BIG EAST team to go unbeaten in last week’s action after sweeping Michigan in a three-game series. It was the first three-game sweep for the Scarlet Knights since RU swept USF April 16-18 of last season.
