The finale of ESPN’s Big Monday featured one of the best 3-point shooting performances in BIG EAST history. No. 8/7 Notre Dame (24-5, 13-4) unleashed a barrage of 3-pointers, tying a BIG EAST single-game team record with 20 made 3-point field goals in a 93-72 win over No. 19/19 Villanova. The last team to hit 20 3-pointers in a game was West Virginia against Marquette on Jan. 14, 2006. The victory also gave the Irish a perfect 17-0 record at home this season.
Seniors Tim Abromaitis and Ben Hansbrough led Notre Dame with 30 points apiece. They became the first Irish players to score 30 or more points in the same contest since Chris Quinn and Colin falls did so against Seton Hall on Feb. 18, 2006. Abromaitis also tied a Purcell Pavilion record with nine made 3s. He finished 9-of-13 from behind the arc while Hansbrough connected on 7-of-10 from downtown while dishing out 10 assists. As a team, Notre Dame was 20-of-32 from 3-point range (62.5 percent).
Villanova (21-9, 9-7) was led by guard Corey Fisher who scored 22 points on 8-of-17 shooting. The Wildcats dropped their third-straight contest.
