Top Three Teams Advance at Second Day of BIG EAST Tennis Championships

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The top three seeds in both the men’s and women’s brackets advanced during the second day of competition at the 2011 BIG EAST Tennis Championships hosted by the University of Notre Dame.   
 
In the men’s bracket, No. 1 seed Louisville shut out No. 8 seed Connecticut 4-0 this morning at the Courtney Tennis Center – North courts, while No. 6 seed Marquette faced the fate against No. 3 seed USF on the South courts. No. 2 seed Notre Dame also blanked No. 7 seed Georgetown in an afternoon match-up. No. 5 seed St. John’s edged No. 4 seed DePaul 4-3 in the closest contest of the day. With three of the singles matches determined in the third set, the match decision went to Red Storm freshman Gustav Kallen, who posted a 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 5 singles.
 
On the women’s side, No. 1 seed Notre Dame swept No. 8 seed Georgetown 4-0 this morning at the Leeper Tennis Park, while No. 2 seed USF beat No. 7 seed Syracuse 4-1. The afternoon matches both recorded 4-2 decisions as No. 5 seed Marquette defeated No. 4 seed Louisville and No. 3 seed DePaul beat No. 6 seed Rutgers.
