WASHINGTON, D.C. – No. 3 seed Loyola will square off against No. 4 seed Notre Dame in the title game of the BIG EAST Women’s Lacrosse Championship on Saturday, May 7 at 1 p.m. The Irish (10-8) are looking for their second tournament title, while the Greyhounds (15-2) are in search of their first. Notre Dame captured its first league tournament crown in 2009, when the championship was last in Washington, D.C. The contest will be televised on the CBS Sports Network (DirecTV #613).
Loyola is having one of its best seasons in recent memory. The Greyhounds began the year 12-0 and were ranked as high as No. 3 in the nation. The team’s only two losses this year came by a total of three goals. The Greyhounds held off Syracuse 12-11 in the semifinals of the tournament on May 5.
Notre Dame has won five of its last six games, including its last four in a row. The Irish upset Georgetown twice in the last two weeks, including the semifinals of the tournament 15-2 on May 5. Notre Dame is trying to win the league tournament title for the second time in the last three years.
Saturday’s title game will mark the first time in the five year history of the event the #3 seed has played the #4 seed for the tournament title. In fact, Notre Dame is the first #4 seed to win a game in the tournament.
