BIG EAST Makes Conference Calls In Week 3

BIG EAST teams have put together a solid 12-4 combined record through two weeks of the 2011 season. League members will find some challenging competition on this week’s docket, though, as each of the other five Bowl Championship Series automatic-qualifying conferences is represented on the Week 3 schedule. Connecticut faces Iowa State (Big 12) Friday, while Saturday’s ledger includes Pittsburgh at Iowa (Big Ten), West Virginia at Maryland (ACC), Louisville at Kentucky (SEC) and Syracuse at USC (Pac-12).

BIG EAST/IMG Sports National Radio Network Begins Friday
Friday’s game between Connecticut and Iowa State at Rentschler Field will be the first 2011 broadcast as part of the BIG EAST/IMG Sports National Radio Network. John Rooke and Peter Brock return to the booth for the first of seven games that will be available to a national radio audience in the 2011 season.

Take Me Away
BIG EAST teams have normally been among the best in the nation when it comes to forcing and recovering turnovers and the 2011 season appears to be no exception. BIG EAST teams occupy the top three places among the national leaders in turnover margin through two weeks of the season, with Rutgers leading the nation at 4.0 turnovers per game. Cincinnati is second (3.5 per game) and USF is third (3.0 per game). Cincinnati and West Virginia, meanwhile, are among the five Bowl Subdivision teams that have not committed a turnover this season.

Cancel Saturday’s Household Chores
It won’t be hard for BIG EAST fans to follow the conference on television this weekend, beginning with Friday’s ESPN2 telecast of the Connecticut-Iowa State game (8 p.m. ET). Saturday begins with a pair of noon kickoffs as Pittsburgh visits Iowa on ESPN2, while West Virginia is at Maryland on ESPNU. The 3:30 game between Cincinnati and Akron will be on ESPN3.com. At 7 p.m., ESPNU has Louisville at Kentucky, while SNY will be the cornerstone of local coverage of the USF-Florida A&M game. Syracuse’s visit to USC will be carried at 8 p.m. ET on FX.
