PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Four schools are represented in the final BIG EAST women’s soccer weekly awards. Notre Dame senior Melissa Henderson earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Marquette senior Kerry McBride was tabbed the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week. West Virginia redshirt-freshman Sara Keane was the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week and Georgetown freshman Daphne Corboz was the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week. All four players will be in action this weekend in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Championship.
Henderson earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors after totaling eight points on four goals in a 1-0-0 week. The senior had four scores in an 5-1 victory against DePaul on Oct. 21. She scored the four goals on just six shots and tallied her third hat trick of the season. For her career, Henderson moved into fifth place on Notre Dame’s career goals list (69) and 10th on its all-time points list (163).
McBride was tabbed BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Golden Eagles in a 1-0 victory over USF on Oct. 22. The junior helped limit the Bulls to just one shot on goal and secured the Golden Eagles’ 12th shutout of the season. Marquette also won a share of its third straight BIG EAST regular-season championship.
Keane earned BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week honors after totaling eight saves in a 1-0 shutout win against Pittsburgh on Oct. 21. She played all 90 minutes and made five saves in the first half. West Virginia also won the BIG EAST regular-season championship and earned the No. 1 seed from the American Division.
Corboz was cited as the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week after scoring two goals in a 6-0 victory against Villanova on Oct. 21. She ranks third on the team with 19 points, along with nine goals.
