PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Connecticut junior Kelsey Maving helped the Huskies volleyball team to a 2-0 week and was named BIG EAST Player of the Week. Marquette’s Chelsea Heier was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for her play as the Golden Eagles went 2-0 last week and improved to 10-0 in league play.
Maving led the conference last week with 7.33 digs per set in Connecticut’s two matches. She recorded a career-high 40 digs against Notre Dame on Oct. 29, which helped the Huskies to a five-set victory. Maving also picked up 26 digs in a 3-1 win over DePaul on Oct. 30 while providing a career-high five assists in the match.
Heier earned freshman of the week honors for the fourth time. She helped Marquette sweep both Pittsburgh and West Virginia. She averaged 14.00 assists per set at Pittsburgh and helped the Golden Eagles hit .396 as a team against the Panthers, for thier highest hitting percentage of the season. She recorded 42 assists against Pittsburgh and 35 against West Virginia while averaging 12.83 assists per set over the weekend.
