Marquette and Louisville advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Championship following wins over the weekend. The Golden Eagles (18-3-0) beat Toledo 1-0 in overtime, while the Cardinals (13-6-3) topped Dayton 2-0. Notre Dame and West Virginia were each eliminated. West Virginia lost at home to Virginia Tech 1-0, while Notre Dame lost at Illinois 1-0.
Marquette sophomore Taylor Madigan's golden goal was scored in the 97th minute. The Golden Eagles advance to the second round of the NCAA Championship where they will play No. 4 seed Penn State on Friday, Nov. 18 at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C., at 5 p.m. ET.
With the victory, the Cardinals advanced to a second round matchup against No. 4 seed Memphis on Friday, Nov. 18, at 8:30 p.m., ET at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex in Memphis, Tenn.
