PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Seton Hall senior Meghan Matusiak helped the Pirates volleyball team to a 2-0 week and was named BIG EAST Player of the Week. Marquette’s Chelsea Heier was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for her play as the Golden Eagles went 2-0 last week and improved to 12-2 in league play.
Matusiak put the Pirates on her back in a pair of five-set wins that secured their third straight BIG EAST Championship appearance. She posted 22 kills and 13 digs to help Seton Hall overcome an 0-2 deficit and beat the Red Storm 3-2 on Nov. 12. She followed up with a career-high 27 kills, which is the seventh highest single-match total in school history, on a .309 clip to go with 10 digs for another double-double. She finished the week averaging 4.90 kills, 5.50 points and 2.30 digs per set.
Heier earned Freshman of the Week honors for the fifth time. She helped Marquette sweep both Notre Dame and DePaul to give the Golden Eagles there best conference record at 12-2. She averaged 14.83 assists per set at Pittsburgh and helped the Golden Eagles hit .377 as a team over the weekend.
