THE GAME
Saturday’s game will be the eighth meeting between Connecticut and Louisville in a series that began in 2000 … Louisville holds a 4-3 series lead after taking a 26-0 win last season at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium … The Cardinals won the first three games in the series before the Huskies took the next three … Last year’s meeting saw the Louisville defense hold Connecticut to just 195 yards in a 26-0 win Oct.23, 2010 … That turned out to be the last loss of the regular season for Connecticut, which won its next five games.

Louisville had bounced back from a 2-4 start with three straight wins, but the Cardinals fell to Pittsburgh last week to stand at .500 … The game at Connecticut is the first of two straight road games to close the regular season for Louisville, which needs one win to become bowl-eligible for the second straight year … The Cardinals are second in the BIG EAST and rank 12th nationally in scoring defense (18.6 ppg) … QB Teddy Bridgewater has started the past seven games as a true freshman … Bridgewater has thrown for 1,440 yards, nine touchdowns and eight interceptions … WR Devante Parker has a team-high four touchdown catches … The Cardinals rank 10th nationally in tackles for loss, averaging 7.6 TFL per game … LB Dexter Heyman and LB Preston Brown have a team-high 70 tackles each … Heyman has a team-high 11 tackles for loss … DE Marcus Smith leads the team with five sacks, while DE William Savoy has 4.5.

Connecticut has won two of its last three games and sits a game behind first-place Cincinnati in the BIG EAST standings … The Huskies are 2-0 in BIG EAST home games and are 0-2 on the road in league games … Connecticut ranks sixth nationally in rushing defense (89.9 yards per game) … QB Johnny McEntee is the regular starter behind center, while QB Scott McCummings has seen regular action as well … McEntee has thrown for 1,515 yards and nine touchdowns with six interceptions, while McCummings has three rushing touchdowns and has thrown two TD passes … RB Lyle McCombs is ranked second in the BIG EAST in rushing at 109.0 yards per game … WR Isiah Moore has a team-high 32 catches for 436 yards, while WR Kashif Moore has 28 catches for 413 yards and a team-leading four touchdowns … LB Jory Johnson is fourth in the BIG EAST in tackles (8.2 per game) … LB Trevardo Williams is third in the conference in sacks (6.5, 0.72 per game), Connecticut is the second least-penalized team in the BIG EAST, averaging just 39.9 yards in penalties, while the Huskies’ opponents have been flagged for a league-high 71.6 yards.
