No. 2/2 Notre Dame (3-0) knocked off Hartford 98-43 in the semifinals of the Preseason WNIT on Thursday night, setting up a huge early-season matchup as the Irish visit No. 1/1 Baylor on Sunday, Nov. 20 for the championship. The game will air on the CBS Sports Network.
Junior Skylar Diggins scored 20 points, while senior Natalie Novosel scored 22 points. The Irish came out strong opening with a 10-2 lead and setting the tone of the game on the defensive end by forcing a shot-clock violation on the opening possession.
“Coach preaches getting up there and making them uncomfortable early,” Diggins said. “I think especially early in the game we try to get out to a great start and that defensive intensity is what leads us to offense.”
A pregame ceremony was held to honor coach Muffet McGraw for her induction to the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame this past June. A banner commemorating her induction now hangs from the rafters of Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center.
Other action around the league saw Louisville (2-1) beat Eastern Kentucky, with sophomore Cierra Warren leading the way with 15 points. USF topped Bethune-Cookman 72-36 for the Bulls third straight win. USF has played five games in the last seven days.
Material from interviews, the Associated Press wire service as well as league and team sources was used in this report.
