BIG EAST teams went 2-1 on Wednesday night.
Forward Cleveland Melvin led a balanced attack with 19 points as DePaul used a dominating second-half performance to top Northern Illinois 75-52. The Blue Demons, who improved to 7-3, won their third straight as guard Brandon Young scored 16, while guard Jeremiah Kelly added 15 and forward Moses Morgan had 11. The Blue Demons host Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 8 p.m. on Saturday.
Guard Sean Kilpatrick scored 20 points as Cincinnati defeated Wright State 78-58
. Playing in only his second game this season guard JaQuon Parker scored 14 points. The Bearcats jumped out to a 17-2 lead behind three 3-pointers by Kilpatrick, who finished with a career high six 3s. Cincinnati returns to action against Radford at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
USF fell to Auburn 52-40
as forward Augustus Gilchrist had 10 points and five rebounds. The Bulls cut the lead to two, 31-29, but the Tigers went on a 14-3 run, to take a 45-32 lead with 6:48 to go. USF hosts Cleveland State on Dec. 19 at 7 p.m.
Twelve games are on Saturday’s schedule. The MSG Holiday Fesitval includes Rutgers and St. John’s. Rutgers meets Stony Brook and St. John’s battles Fordham at Madison Square Garden.
CBS Sports is carrying Louisville versus Memphis at the Yum! Center at 4 p.m. ET. The Cardinals have won 17 straight home games.
Notre Dame meets Indiana in the Crossroads Classic at Conseco Field House in Indianapolis, Ind. ESPN2 has the telecast at 4:30 p.m.
Syracuse and Villanova are the only schools playing true road games. Syracuse is at North Carolina State on ESPN2 at 6:30 p.m. For the first time in their long and spirited Philadelphia Big 5 rivalry, Villanova meets Saint Joseph’s on the Hawks’ campus. In the past, the game has been played at the Palestra when Saint Joe’s has been the home team. CBS Sports Network will televise the game at 8 p.m.
