ESPN begins its annual Big Monday series today with a pair of BIG EAST matchups on the network’s flagship station.
The BIG EAST has been a fixture on Big Monday since the inception of the series in 1987 and this year is no different. This year’s series includes eight BIG EAST games in a seven-week span.
The series begins this year with a 3:30 p.m. ET matchup between Louisville and Marquette at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee. The schools last met in the 2011 BIG EAST Championship, when the Cardinals scored an 81-56 win. The last time the teams met at the Bradley Center was March 2, 2010, when Marquette was a 69-48 winner.
The nightcap on ESPN has top-ranked Syracuse looking to improve to 20-0 as the Orange host Pittsburgh at the Carrier Dome at 7:30. Syracuse has matched its best start in program history, registering its second straight 19-0 start. The Panthers are looking for their first BIG EAST win of the season, but have won five straight in the series with Syracuse, including wins in their last five trips to the Carrier Dome.
In addition to today’s Big Monday telecasts, ESPNU hosts a 9 p.m. BIG EAST matchup between Notre Dame and Rutgers at the Rutgers Athletic Center. The Irish lead the BIG EAST regular-season series, 12-9, after taking last year’s matchup at Purcell Pavilion. Rutgers, which has won two of its last three, was a 74-73 winner the last time the teams met in New Jersey.
