There were five BIG EAST women’s basketball games on Tuesday night as 10 teams were in action. No. RV/23 DePaul upset No. 14/12 Louisville 86-61 at home, while No. 2/2 Notre Dame won at No. 13/14 Rutgers 71-41. Both games were broadcast on the CBS Sports Network.
DePaul (17-6, 5-4 BIG EAST) had five players score in double figures, including junior Anna Martin who netted a game-high 19 points.
Junior Katherine Harry had 14 points and grabbed a career-high 20 rebounds. It also was a building record, and the most by a DePaul player since Khara Smith had 20 against LSU on March 25, in 2006. With that performance, Harry also took over the league lead in rebounding, averaging 9.3 boards per game. She has totaled 215 rebounds this year.
Louisville (17-5, 6-3 BIG EAST) was led by sophomore Shoni Schimmel’s 14 points.
In Piscataway, N.J., Notre Dame (22-1, 9-0 BIG EAST) raced out to a 40-23 halftime lead and never looked back. Redhsirt-senior Devereaux Peters grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds to go along with 10 points. It was the third straight game Peters has grabbed 15+ boards marking the first time a Notre Dame player has accomplished the feat since 1979.
Irish sophomore Kayla McBride also had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while junior Skylar Diggins scored a game-high 18 points.
Rutgers (17-5, 6-3 BIG EAST) was led by junior Monique Oliver’s 17 points. Redshirt senior Khadijah Rushdan did not play after sustaining an injury in the team’s last game on Jan. 29.
Syracuse (14-9, 3-6 BIG EAST) won at Providence 80-54 behind a record-setting free throw performance. The Orange were a BIG EAST-record 23-of-23 from the free throw line. Senior Iasia Hemingway scored a game-high 24 points to lead Syracuse. Senior Teya Wright led Providence (12-10, 4-5 BIG EAST) with 15 points.
Villanova (14-8, 4-5 BIG EAST) knocked off Seton Hall (7-16, 0-9 BIG EAST) 62-53 at home. The Wildcats were 12-of-27 from 3-point range and continue to rank among the league leaders in 3-point shooting, averaging 8.3 trifectas per game. Redshirt-freshman Lauren Burford led the VU offense with 17 points, including five 3-pointers.
Senior Jasmine Crew led The Hall with 24 points, nine rebounds and three assists.
St. John’s (14-8, 6-3 BIG EAST) won at Pittsburgh (8-14, 0-9 BIG EAST) 66-51. The Red Storm had four players in double figures, including senior Da’Shena Stevens who had 19 points. Pitt, who has lost eight in a row, was led by redshirt-sophomore Ashlee Anderson’s 19 points.
There are two BIG EAST games set for Wednesday night. West Virginia (15-6, 5-3 BIG EAST) is at USF (12-10, 4-4 BIG EAST) at 7 p.m. ET, while Cincinnati (10-11, 1-7 BIG EAST) is at Marquette (12-9, 3-5 BIG EAST) at 8 p.m. ET. Both games will be televised locally.
