PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Notre Dame and Connecticut took first-place finishes during the first day of diving action at the BIG EAST Championships at Trees Poll on the University of Pittsburgh campus. Irish freshman Nicholas Nemetz claimed the men’s 3-meter board and UConn junior Danielle Cecco won the women’s 1-meter board crown.
Nemetz posted a winning score of 325.15 on the 3-meter board to take the 2012 conference title. He edged West Virginia senior Matt O’Neill by 3.65 points.
In the women’s 1-meter competition, Cecco took top honors with a score of 287.10. Notre Dame freshman Allison Casareto posted a second-place score of 283.80.
The competitors switch boards Saturday, Feb. 11 with the women moving to the 3-meter and the men to the 1-meter. The diving portion of the BIG EAST Championship wraps up Sunday, Feb. 12 with platform diving.
