Notre Dame Sweeps Day Two of Diving Action

 PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Notre Dame captured both first-place finishes during the second day of diving action at the BIG EAST Championships at Trees Poll on the University of Pittsburgh campus. Irish freshman Nicholas Nemetz claimed the men’s 1-meter board for his second title in as many days while teammate junior Jenny Chiang won the women’s 3-meter board crown.
 
Nemetz posted a winning score of 322.30 on the 1-meter board to take the 2012 conference title. Following the competition, he was named the 2012 BIG EAST Men’s Most Outstanding Diver for his two first-place finishes at the Championship.
 
In the women’s 3-meter competition, Chiang took top honors with a score of 320.90. Connecticut junior Danielle Cecco finished second with a score of 309.95.
 
Cecco was named the 2012 BIG EAST Women’s Most Outstanding Diver at the Championship after a first place and runner-up finish on the 1-meter and 3-meter boards, respectively. 
 
The Diving Coach of the Year honors were also awarded, with Notre Dame’s Caiming Xie earning 2012 BIG EAST Men’s Diving Coach of the Year and Connecticut’s John Bransfield winning 2012 BIG EAST Women’s Diving Coach of the Year.
 
The diving portion of the BIG EAST Championship wraps up Sunday, Feb. 12 at noon with platform diving. 
 
After the conclusion of the scored diving events, Notre Dame holds a strong lead in the men’s team standings with 129 points.  Pittsburgh currently sits in second place with 72 points and West Virginia is on third with 46 points.  In the women’s competition, Louisville has jumped out to the early lead with 74 points while Notre Dame sits three points behind in second place with 71 points.  Rutgers has recorded 52 points and currently holds third place.
