PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Notre Dame senior Maggie Tamasitis and Connecticut junior Brittney Testa have earned the first BIG EAST women’s lacrosse weekly awards. Tamasitis was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, while Testa was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week.
Tamasitis earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors after totaling seven points in a win over No. 6/17 Stanford on Feb. 19. The senior had six assists, two ground balls and one goal as the Irish won their season-opener for the ninth straight year. Tamasitis also has recorded at least one point in 38 straight games dating back to Feb. 23, 2010.
Testa was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week after helping UConn to a 10-7 season-opening win over Iona on Feb. 18. The junior made a career-high 15 saves including nine in the second half.

Had six goals in a 16-7 win at Wagner on Feb. 18; also was a perfect 2-of-2 on free position opportunities.

Helped anchor a solid defensive performance in a 16-7 win at Wagner on Feb. 18 with two ground balls, two caused turnovers and one draw control.
Kylie Ramsland, Cincinnati, Jr., M
Totaled seven points in a 1-1 week; had a career-high six goals in a 17-12 win against Fresno State on Feb. 19.
Hannah Schmitt, Loyola, Fr., A
Recorded a hat trick in her first collegiate appearance, a 14-9 loss at No. 10/11 Virginia on Feb. 18.
Kiersten Tupper, Connecticut, Sr., A
Totaled five points, including four goals, in a 10-7 win over Iona on Feb. 18 at home.
THE INSIDE SCOOP
OFF TO A GREAT START – A pair of BIG EAST coaches made their first appearances with new teams over the weekend, and both came away with victories. On Feb. 18, new Villanova head coach Julie Young guided the Wildcats to a 16-7 win at Wagner. On Feb. 19, new Notre Dame head coach Christine Halfpenny directed the Irish to a 17-14 win over No. 6/17 Stanford.
Eight BIG EAST players named to the Tewaaraton Watch List – On Feb. 15, eight league stars were named to the 2012 Tewaaraton Watch List. Players may be added to the list during the season, but in April it will be narrowed to 25. In May, five finalists will be announced. The winner will be named on May 31 at the Smithsonian Institute’s National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C.
