HARTFORD, Conn. - No. 10 seed Villanova (17-13) edged No. 15 seed Seton Hall (8-23) by the score of 61-60 in the First Round of the 2012 BIG EAST women’s basketball Championship presented by American Eagle Outfitters. Four Villanova players were in double figures, including redshirt-freshman Lauren Burford who had a team-high 15 points.

VU junior Laura Sweeney added 13 points and has scored in double figures in 23 of 30 games this season.

Seton Hall held a 30-25 halftime lead, but the Wildcats responded in the second half shooting 46-percent, while holding The Hall to just 33-percent.

There were seven ties and eight lead changes.

Senior Hall senior Jasmine Crew scored a team-high 21 points.

With a win, Villanova will play No. 7 seed Louisville on Saturday at 6 p.m. ET. Louisville edged Villanova 62-58 on Jan. 28, 2012. The Cardinals are 8-0 all-time against Villanova.
