Villanova won its first game of the tournament for the second straight year. VU improved to 22-7 in its first day of action at the tournament.

VU entered the game averaging a league-leading 8.2 3-pointers per game and was 7-of-20.

Villanova junior Laura Sweeney fouled out with 3:17 left in the contest. She tallied 13 points and grabbed six rebounds. She has scored in double figures in 23 of 30 games this season.

Sweeney also moved into 10th place on the school’s scoring list with 1,097 points.

VU also improved to 2-1 against Seton Hall in BIG EAST tournament action.

The loss was the fourth consecutive for the Pirates in tournament play.

Seton Hall senior Jasmine Crew scored 21 points; it was her tournament career-high.

With a win, Villanova will play No. 7 seed Louisville on Saturday at 6 p.m. ET. Louisville edged Villanova 62-58 on Jan. 28, 2012. The Wildcats are 0-8 all-time against the Cardinals.
