It is the second straight year Marquette has won their first game of the tournament. Last year they beat Pitt 65-61 in a second round matchup.

The win for Marquette snapped a three-game series losing streak against Cincinnati.

The teams also met last week on Feb. 21 during the regular-season, with Cincinnati posting a 60-46 victory.

With the win, Marquette will play No. 6 seed Rutgers on Saturday at approximately 8 p.m. ET. Rutgers beat Marquette during the regular-season 69-58 on Feb. 27.
