Junior Asya Bussie entered the game with 984 points and scored 13 against Syracuse to bring her career total to 997.

SU went eight minutes without a field goal in the first half (18:34-10:34) yet only trailed 13-8 with 10:34 left. The Mountaineers led 32-21 at halftime.

Entering the game, Syracuse averaged 69.0 ppg which ranked fifth in the BIG EAST.

Entering the game, Syracuse was 0-12 when trailing at the half, including 0-9 against BIG EAST opponents.

It is the fifth-straight year West Virginia has won its opening game of the BIG EAST tournament. WVU improves to 14-15 all-time in BIG EAST tournament action.

With the win, West Virginia will play No. 4 seed Georgetown on Sunday at noon ET. WVU lost to Georgetown 64-54 on Jan. 24, 2012 in Morgantown. The teams met once previously in the tournament when GU beat WVU 79-60 on March 2, 1997 in Storrs, Conn.
