No. 10 seed Villanova vs. No. 7 seed Louisville

Louisville sophomore Shoni Schimmel finished with a game-high 20 points, eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks.
There were four ties and 10 lead changes.
The teams combined for 11 3-pointers in the first half; Villanova had seven, while Louisville had four. Every Villanova starter had made a 3-pointer with 5:25 left in the first half. Villanova went 0-of-6 from 3-point range in the second half.
Villanova entered the game leading the league in 3-pointers at 8.2 per game; Louisville ranked fourth in the BIG EAST averaging 5.9.
Louisville opened the second half with a 9-2 run to hold a 38-31 lead with 16:35 left in the second half. The Cardinals outscored Villanova 34-18 in the second half.
Villanova junior Laura Sweeney had 13 points and 10 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the year.
VU junior Rachel Roberts scored in double figures (10 points) for the second straight game and the 13th time this year.
VU sophomore Devon Kane entered the BIG EAST tournament averaging 6.5 ppg. In the last two games this year she averaged 11.5 ppg, including 13 vs. Louisville on Saturday. Kane has scored in double figures in five of the last nine games.
Last year, Louisville beat Villanova 69-47 in the second round of the 2011 BIG EAST tournament.
The Cardinals have won at least one game in the BIG EAST tournament in six of their seven years, and improved to 10-6 all-time in the BIG EAST tournament.
Louisville improved to 9-0 all-time against Villanova.
With the win, Louisville will play No. 2 seed St. John’s on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. ET.
St. John’s won the regular-season meeting between the teams 72-64 on Jan. 8 in Queens, N.Y.
The teams have met on two previous occasions in the BIG EAST tournament, with Louisville holding a 2-0 advantage. The Cardinals won 68-54 in 2007 and 63-47 in 2008.
