PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Syracuse women’s lacrosse sophomore Alyssa Murray has earned the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors for Week 8, while Loyola senior Kellye Gallagher earned BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
Murray earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors after amassing 12 points, including eight goals, in a 2-0 week. The sophomore had five points (three assists and two goals) in a 16-10 win at then-No. 9/6 Notre Dame on Apr. 5. Murray recorded a team-high seven points, including six goals, in a 15-10 win over Rutgers on Apr. 7. She leads the team with 48 points and 33 goals this year.
Gallagher was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week following a 17-8 victory against Louisville in the team’s only game. She caused back-to-back turnovers on the Cardinals first two possessions to keep them off the board until the 22:05 mark and finished the contest with four ground balls and a game-high five caused turnovers. For the season, Gallagher leads the nation with 3.64 ground balls per game and 2.91 caused turnovers per game.

WINS OVER RANKED TEAMS – BIG EAST teams have totaled 12 wins over ranked teams this year. In addition, five different schools have recorded the wins, including Georgetown, Loyola, Notre Dame, Rutgers and Syracuse. Last year, the league tallied five wins against ranked opponents, while in 2010 the BIG EAST had nine wins over ranked teams.

TV TIME – For the second straight year, the BIG EAST Conference is in the midst of an four-game television package on the CBS Sports Network broadcasting games throughout the regular-season. The eight tv appearances ties the highest regular-season mark in women’s lacrosse history. For the third straight year, the network also will air all three games of the BIG EAST Championship (May 3 & 5) bringing the total number of appearances to 14.
