PROVIDENCE, R.I. West Virginia sophomore Matt Frazer was selected as the BIG EAST Baseball Player of the Week and Seton Hall sophomore Brian Gilbertwas named BIG EAST Baseball Pitcher of the week after the third weekend of BIG EAST play.
Frazer batted .455 (5-11) last week, with 2 runs, one double, two home runs and five RBIs. He hit a first pitch walk-off home run in the tenth inning to give West Virginia a 6-5 victory over Villanova on April 7.
Gilbert tossed his first career complete-game shutout against Notre Dame on Saturday. Gilbert set career-highs with nine innings pitched and six strikeouts, while matching his career-low of four hits allowed. The sophomore’s performance led the Pirates to a 2-0 victory in the third game of the series, enabling the Pirates to sweep the three-game set.
