RETURN TO SAAC HOMEPAGE
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – On Saturday, March 31st, the BIG EAST Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) performed a community service day with Special Olympics Rhode Island. Fourteen student-athletes and athletic administrators representing various BIG EAST Conference schools, visited East Providence Bowling Lanes and assisted with their Unified Bowling Tournament for over 200 athletes.
The community service event, coordinated through Special Olympics Rhode Island, was the result of the student-athletes desire to take on a meaningful community service activity, and was planned in conjunction with the annual SAAC meeting that takes place at the BIG EAST Conference headquarters in Providence, RI. SAAC members, guided by the principles of ethics, integrity, sportsmanship and a respect for diversity, play a leadership role in promoting community service at the campus level as well as to establish a conference wide community service initiative. Jennifer Condaras, Assistant Commissioner for Compliance at the BIG EAST said, “our student-athletes were excited to assist with the Unified Bowling Tournament with Special Olympics Rhode Island. They enjoyed meeting all of the participating athletes and had a great time. Kenny Schank, Assistant Director of Compliance, did a terrific job of coordinating the efforts for the event.”
